GIS Introduction
Course Id: 189
Course Description
The Introduction to GIS course will allow interested individuals to become familiar with ArcExplorer, a free software application with limited capabilities similar to ArcView (the commercial GIS application). GIS Operators, an entry level position in the geospatial industry, use Geographic Information Systems to solve problems and make sense of complex situations. By creating a color-coded map from data sources, a GIS Operator can interpret data which allows him/her to see relationships, patterns, or trends that are not possible to see with traditional charts, graphs, and spreadsheets. A profile of the Geospatial industry, GIS careers, GIS websites, Google Earth, Mapquest, and other web-enabled GIS applications will also be explored.
