Course Description
The A+ Personal Computer Technician certification by CompTIA is one of the most valued certifications in the Information Technology (IT) industry. The 2006 A+ exam objectives emphasize portable computing devices, networking and security to reflect today’s technology. Real-world scenarios, including communication and professionalism, are also emphasized at the request of IT employers. A+ Certified Technicians are in high demand as employers try to keep up with the rapidly changing IT industry.
Recommended prerequisites: Introduction to Computers or equivalent knowledge/experience.
Additional Prerequisites: Current results on the Test for Adult Basic Education (TABE) are required. TABE testing/assistance is available at Aparicio-Levy Adult Technical Center. A TABE score of 10 or higher is required for entrance into the A+/PC Repair and Maintenance program. A high school diploma or GED is also required. Although not a prerequisite, it is recommended that CompTIA A+ candidates have at least nine months of experience in technical support or adequate academic training in the IT or technical help-desk field. This prerequisite may be waived upon consideration by the instructor.
